September 25, 2024
Arc sunset announced. The Browser Company unveiled Dia and announced Arc's end-of-life.
October 1, 2024 – December 14, 2026
Maintenance period. Arc continues to work. Security updates and critical bug fixes provided, but no new features.
December 15, 2026
Last day to request account data. Final day to request a complete export of your Arc account (browsing history, settings, synced data) from The Browser Company. After this date, account data exports are unavailable.
This doesn't affect your ability to manually back up StorableSidebar.json or use Arc's File → Export Data, which work locally.
December 22, 2026
Arc stops working. Arc will cease to function. You won't be able to launch or use the browser. All sync services shut down.
What happens to your data
What you keep
- Local files: StorableSidebar.json and other local files remain on your computer, but you can't open them in Arc
- Exported data: Any Markdown exports or bookmark conversions you've made continue to work
- Imported bookmarks: If you've moved bookmarks to another browser, they're safe
What you lose
- Arc sync: Cloud-synced data (tabs, settings) deleted from The Browser Company's servers
- Account data: After December 15, 2026, you can no longer request your full account export
- Browser functionality: Arc won't open after December 22, 2026
What to do now
- Back up StorableSidebar.json — Contains your complete sidebar. Find it here
- Export from Arc — Use File → Export Data for a Markdown list
- Request account data (if needed) — For browsing history and synced settings, request before December 15, 2026
- Convert bookmarks — Use the converter to create bookmarks.html for any browser
- Choose a new browser — Popular for Arc users:
- Dia (free Arc import included)
- Zen Browser (modern, Firefox-based)
- Chrome
- Firefox
- Safari (Mac)
Why is Arc shutting down?
The Browser Company is focusing on Dia, a new AI-first browser designed to "browse for you." Rather than maintaining two browsers, they decided to sunset Arc and offer migration tools to Dia.
Arc was loved for Spaces, vertical tabs, Split View, and clean design. Many concepts are being reimagined in Dia with AI capabilities.
